I thought that through this cartoon, Fitzpatrick attempts to tell his audience that the spread of McCarthyism has gotten out of hand. In the political cartoon, Uncle Sam states that unlike everyone else in America him and the Statue of Liberty who sits beside him are not treacherous and do not attempt to undermine other citizens. Then, he questions himself and wonders whether or not the Statue of Liberty could in fact be a communist. The Statue of Liberty is a symbol of America and freedom and in the cartoon Uncle Sam is accusing the Statue of Liberty of not being an American, but a communist.
